A few little waves dribbling in along the beachies. The swell is pretty small but the conditions are nice.

There isn't much power anywhere but if you have something with length or volume you will get a few clean faces. Body boarders should head for the Bay where the wedge should be working.

Doesn't matter where you go because there are peaks of some kind everywhere between Hungry Hollow and the BP Groyne.

Dropped

The swell has dropped a little but there are a few waves at BP. Its pretty cold, the wind is calm and the water brown.

The rips or the groyne are the go but I wouldn't wait to long. There is another front due this evening and the wind should be swinging into the north west by mid morning.

Judging by what I saw yesterday there should be a few corners at Back Beach into the gutters.

Looks onshore until Saturday morning at this stage.

Here it comes again

Another front on the way tomorrow with damaging winds. Good job I didn't put the outdoor furniture back after the last one.

Bit of a pre-front northerly wave for those who were quick this afternoon. I saw a guy take a clean head height drop on what looked like the best peak in front of the surf club.

The sea and swell have both swung north west and are climbing rapidly.  The sea is 1.12 and the swell 0.73. The swell period has dropped four seconds since midday and is sitting on 10.

There are some weird blobs on the Stormsurf wave models for the next week or so. It has a 30 foot swell hitting Marges in 72 hours with Perth getting 18 - 20. Forty seven feet of swell is passing the south coast. There are then two follow up 15 to 20 foot swells in the following few days

The models can be a bit funky and this is super unusual

WEATHER SITUATION
A cold front moving over the area during Tuesday is likely to cause WIDESPREAD
DAMAGING WINDS to 100 kilometres per hour that could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES
AND PROPERTY. In isolated areas DANGEROUS GUSTS in excess of 125 kilometres per
hour could cause SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OR DESTRUCTION TO HOMES AND PROPERTY.
DAMAGING winds are likely to develop about the Capes early on Tuesday morning
and extend to remaining parts later in the morning. Thunderstorms are also
possible.

Higher than normal tides may result in flooding of low-lying coastal areas in
the Geographe Bay area, including Busselton and Dunsborough, on Tuesday morning.

This is typical weather for this time of year.

Severe weather warning

The weather bureau just released this -

WEATHER SITUATION
A deepening low offshore from Bunbury is expected to move rapidly southeast
towards  Augusta during Sunday afternoon and produce DANGEROUS WINDS in excess
of 125 kilometres per hour that could cause SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OR DESTRUCTION TO
HOMES AND PROPERTY IN LOCALISED AREAS. 

Winds associated with this storm are MUCH STRONGER THAN A USUAL WINTER STORM,
particularly in the southwest. The worst wind conditions are likely near the
coast between Bunbury and Augusta but DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS  could be
experienced in areas southwest of a line Jurien Bay to Katanning to Bremer Bay,
including Perth, Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Bridgetown,
Albany, Katanning, Narrogin and Bremer Bay. 

Across the entire warning area, DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 110 kilometres per hour
are expected which could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. 

There are some guys out around the surf club but the conditions have changed rapidly in the last thirty minutes. Winds have gone from gusts around 25 ks at noon to 54 ks ten minutes ago. Looking over the water it ain't getting better in a hurry.

Early burst if spring

Some nice spring like weather over the weekend and as with the rest of the week there has been some waves, especially in the morning. And as usual I haven't been able to get out until now and it was crappy.

There is a nice A frame at the Clam with a fast left on the other side of the channel. A rip bank in front of the Surf Club has been good for weeks now and was really good on some of the glassy mornings this week.

Juniors has a nice rip bowl both ways in front of the rocks. BP Groyne has a little shape but is also shutting down a lot. There are banks up and down BP beach.

Showers on and off next week so there could still be some days to get wet.

Stay home

Blowing a gale and has been for days. There was a 72 kmh gust around 7.00 am and it isn't backing off.

The beach is a massive washing machine. Shouldn't really call it the beach because the water is lapping on the dunes, old swimming baths, rocks, sea wall and anything else that is usually dry. There are huge waves bashing in  everywhere.

It looks like the Wall is the only place surfable. There are a truck load of cars at the gate but with spray coming over the seawall I wasn't walking down to find out. Looking from a couple of other vantage points I would say there are waves but they won't be very good.

Quickie

Quick little surf at the Surf Club after work today. The waves were ok with a couple of little faces for hacks and floaters if you got the sets. They were breaking close to shore but on a bit of an angle and with an inside channel.

Drove past earlier and the waves were about the same so you might have got some as well. The BP Groyne has the odd wave as well.

Sunny tomorrow and a front coming in on Friday.

Wobbles

There are a few waves around this morning. With the tide, rips, messed up swell and light winds it is a little bit of a crap shoot to get the best ones but there is some face.

The crowds are really small with a few out in front of the Surf Club and one at BP. Juniors has some decent looking banks, even if they are a little full and there are waves up and down the beach.

The swell should continue to drop as the weather dries up next week. If you happen to be in the right place at the right time you might pick yourself up a clean but brown wave here and there.

Oahu back beach

Bunbury turned on another classic winter's day today. There was a huge amount of swell hanging around and very light winds that were offshore this morning.

There was only one taker out at BP first up this morning in waves that had some size and power but also the off bit of shape.

All day it pumped. I was at work but have seen some photos of head height make-able death pits at the Back Beach. The pics are on my work computer so stay tuned (the camera is a lot better than mine !)

The crowds picked up in the late afternoon as the wind stayed calm and the waves kept pumping in. The Back Beach was still the pick, especially out the front of the Surf Club.

Another front coming tomorrow afternoon with some windy and wet weather into the weekend according to the forecast. Could still be the chance of a wave in the morning and I wouldn't write off Saturday and Sunday just yet.

Be quick

The conditions are no very nice but there are a few waves around for those who want to get wet. There is a crowd in a rip in front of the Surf Club and a few out at the Bay and BP Groyne.

I watched a guy catch a nice wall at the groyne that was head height on take off. A few minutes later I watched him free fall six feet as the lip pitched him before he could get to his feet. No pleasure without pain !

The wind is north something depending on how it is feeling with each blow. It is starting to settle into the north west and the conditions should deteriorate over the next couple of hours.

On the plus side when we finally get a clean swell it looks like there are going to be some decent banks to play with.

Same-ish

A little smaller and a bit messier than yesterday but there are still plenty of north swell waves pumping through along the back beach. Size is down a foot but there is still plenty of those sneaker sets around head height and as a bonus the sun is shining so the air isn't freezing cold.

Same

Still plenty of north swell pumping through but also still choppy and a bit wonky. Whippies is the pick but all along the back beach there are waves.

While I was checking it out about 3.30 a single wave set came through at a solid 4 foot plus and really workable if you were out far enough (which no one was).

Coastalwatch indicates that there are some waves on the Dunsborough side of the cape. With the Naturaliste buoy showing over two and a metres of due north sea and a two metre plus west swell they probably are. I bet there are more than a few out at the Wedge near Inji hopping for a few mor Biancca style pits.

Windy

Strong NE winds are still blowing making some surfable by difficult conditions locally. The surfclub/clam area is the pick and BP is blown out.

Not as clean as yesterday but still some nice waves if you can avoid the frustration and the drainers.

Down the south end of the Surf Club beach just before the Clam was the pick but there were plenty of corners everywhere. BP Groyne had some wide of the rocks and there was a little bank at BP with a few out as well.

Get out there

Northerly wind swell and glassy conditions have been happening all day. The Surf Club and surrounds has shoulder height sets rolling through at 45 degrees to the beach.

The crowd has been really small but has built considerably since school finished and with those on POETS day.

The front is getting closer and the wind continues to freshen. The are a few out at the Surf Club tying to catch the early lumps before it gets to messy. There is some north in it so there are the odd rideable ones but they look a lot better than they are.

Spring again

Nice morning but the wind has turned onshore already. There is still a little swell around but not many waves.

The usual three are out a BP Reef and there are a couple at the groyne in closeouts.

The Surf Club are doing IRB training so it might be a good place to avoid for a few hours unless you like the smell of petrol fumes and surfing by a motorcross track.

Snapper Rocks !

The BP Groyne became Snapper Rocks with this take off resulting in a neatly broken surfboard.

Plenty of swell around with offshore winds first up this morning. BP Groyne was throwing some nice barrels between closeouts.

The Back Beach was pretty busy with as mix of body boarders and surfers getting the odd corner here and there. I saw one body boarder lock into a nice long tube and emerge clean.

There were still the odd places away from the crowd for the patient. There was only one at the Clam and a small sprinkling at a dumping Bay.

The wind swung southerly quickly but didn't mess it up too much at the start. Could be okay tomorrow.

School Daze

Pretty wintery weather today with a NNW wind. There are a few surfers here and there taking on some inconsistent peaks here and there.

The Grammar kids are out at the groyne, although the kids seem to want to stay on the beach while the teacher surfs. Out on his mal he caught a couple of screamers and even got a backwash coverup. Makes me wonder about me board choice yesterday.
