Two fronts in a row to start Spring. Severe weather warning issued for today with the front due to hit the capes about 9.00 am.
WEATHER SITUATION
A strong cold front is approaching from the southwest, expected near Cape
Leeuwin about 9am and extending throughout the area by 5pm. Widespread showers,
isolated thunderstorms and squally conditions expected with the front. Squalls
may cause DANGEROUS WINDS in excess of 125 kilometres per hour that could cause
SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OR DESTRUCTION TO HOMES OR PROPERTY IN LOCALISED AREAS.
Tomorrow's front is also meant to be strong as well.
Surf wise it is what you would expect. Onshore, sloppy and brown. The swell has dropped a little, not that it matters. The forecast is for 4 - 7 metres on Tuesday.

Spring
Day 1 of Spring and we have perfect Spring weather - sunny one minute, raining the next. Winter was a complete dud again but we will still probably get some more bad weather in the next few weeks. There were no real banks formed anywhere.
Every year that I have lived here (and that is quite a few) we've had a nice bank at the Clam but there hasn't been a single Clam day so far this year.
The Wall had some nice sand but not enough swell. The Groyne has had a day or two and Fraggles maybe an hour or two. The plus was the rip bank at Juniors but only for a week or so. BP Reef continues to be MIA and if you tell people that it was once the most consistent winter wave and broke off the back bombie they think you are on drugs !
There is no surf today as you would have already guessed. There has been four surfable hours all week and if you were on it quickly enough you could have had some fun. But I'm guessing most people (including me) just wrote the week off.
The seven day forecast has onshores till next Friday.
0.98 @ 13 seconds, seas 1.09.

Back to winter
A crappy end to a crappy week. As well as there being nothing worth surfing (except for the desperadoes) some bastard broke into my garage and stole my bike and under-water camera.
Its a long shot but if anyone notices a scum bag riding a white and blue Giant XTC mountain bike, complete with disc brakes, the mounting for a speedo and a LED front light (no back light) in almost new condition, please ring the police.
Looks like you might be keeping your boards in the shed for a few more days. With the winds from the south it will be hard to find somewhere sheltered enough to make it worth it.

Early burst if spring
Some nice spring like weather over the weekend and as with the rest of the week there has been some waves, especially in the morning. And as usual I haven't been able to get out until now and it was crappy.
There is a nice A frame at the Clam with a fast left on the other side of the channel. A rip bank in front of the Surf Club has been good for weeks now and was really good on some of the glassy mornings this week.
Juniors has a nice rip bowl both ways in front of the rocks. BP Groyne has a little shape but is also shutting down a lot. There are banks up and down BP beach.
Showers on and off next week so there could still be some days to get wet.

Spring
Another near perfect spring day. Offshores, super clear water and a temp that allowed the shedding of wetsuits for boardies. The only thing missing was a bank or two.
Yesterday's swell disappeared as quick as it appeared and we were down to around 0.4. There was still some lines showing but the lack of summer sand build up meant that it was mostly closeouts.
There were a few waves on the inside suck up at BP reef and a couple of guys out. But it was really inconsistent and most sets run away to fast. I went for another hand plane session at Barnacles.
Nothing much changed this afternoon. The swell hasn't dropped much bit hasn't picked up either. Took out the board and tried to get into a few off the reef but it wasn't letting me in.

NIce Day
Perfect Spring weather and a decent ground swell. The harbour bouy has been over 0.75 for most of the day and Naturaliste was just under three. Coastalwatch was reporting down south as solid, clean and 4 - 6'+.
Locally the lack of banks was still causing a problem. Sidewash was popular all day with BP and Juniors drawing a little after work crowd. The Bay was touched by the wind and messy. There were even a few lines showing at the Wall and across the Cut. Fraggles had some steamers coming through but the lulls were horrendous.
The wind will have a touch of north in it tomorrow and the swell is heading down. However you still might get some half decent waves, maybe at Capel, Binningup or down south.

Spring has sprung
Corny line - sorry.
No clouds, blue sky and clean water. There was even a little desperation dribble for the Fathers who wanted to share it with their sons. There were a few out at BP reef and some groms taking on Barnacles and Juniors.
I went out at BP Reef. The waves were pretty weak and breaking off the inside reef which was shallow. That one rock sitting down the line nearly caught everyone at least one when the excitement of a "set" wave pushing the paddler wider.
Regardless of the size, it was fun and nice to be in the sun and in the water. To top off my session I whipped out the handplane and crack a couple of reef drainers at Barnacles.

First Hot Day
We'll probably second hot day of Spring and the beach is packed. Good luck getting a parking spot at back beach.
Its one of those days that clubbies hate. First time most people have been in the water since last summer, the water is colder than people expect, Winter's rocks and sandbanks are still around and there is a decent size swell dumping onto the shallow bank and ripping back to sea. Plus they are only two weeks into their patrol season. If you decide to go for a swim be careful.
Although there is swell the lack of any banks continues to make it nothing better than close outs. Leave your board at home.

Nothing Much to Say
Proper Spring day today. Sunny, shorts weather in the morning, grey and wet at lunchtime, bit cold in the afternoon but dry.
Surfwise the swell is small and the tide was very low this morning. Winds have been onshore all day and there was nothing worth surfing.
Some forecasts are showing a jump in swell size with a similar day to today.
My suggestion is to stay home and watch Bathurst !

Even More Spring Like Day
The wind is cold and offshore but the air temp. is ok. The conditions are clean and glassy with a good sized swell.
There are people out everywhere but the numbers are pretty low. 95% of the waves are close outs or unrideable but those keen enough to paddle out and getting a worthwhile surf on the remaining 5%.
The biggest waves are probably at the Bay but they are really wedgey and there is a heap of weed. The body board groms that tried earlier have now moved to a more consistent rip bank at BP.
BP reef is looking mean but if you get the right one there is a decent short left. Sidewash has a few body boarders out and I saw a quick pig dog cover up just south of the Surf Club.

Another Disapointing Winter
According to the calendar winter is over and it is now spring. Unfortunately someone forgot to tell the weather.
This was probably the worst winter for surf that I can remember in my 14 odd years here.
There was not a single bank at BP all winter. The reef was always a three section left in winter but it hasn't broken on the second shallow take off all year (and hasn't worked for the last four or five). Juniors is never good in winter but we usually get a decent rip bank off the southern rocks. It has threatened to appear a few times but never done it.
The BP Groyne has been surfed a bit but the bank and rip just aren't there. The sand isn't getting washed out and the weed is getting washed in. Fraggles broke about three times early and only once was more than a novelty.
The Bay was a little more consistent but not all time. The Wall broke a few times but you wouldn't have surfed it is there was any other choice.
The Surf Club had a few banks for a few days between swells. The Clam failed to really get one of the good winter banks and was mostly a close out. On the days it did work it was packed.
Bright sides were the opening of the path to the Bay and the start of construction on the BP look out but that's about it.
