The swell has pretty much disappeared locally. From watching the Drugaware Pro on FuelTV its the same story down there. Judging from the commentators its not looking good for tomorrow either.
The beach was pretty this morning, crisp air, clear water and strong offshores. There was a gaggle of lid groms at BP Groyne. I'm guessing that they spent most of yesterday spewing that they were stuck at school while the waves were firing and arrange for an epic early. No matter how small it is groms will always get wet if they have made the effort to get out of bed !
A little handplane session late this arvo was a great way to end the day, even if my feet ended up looking like they belonged to a dead person.
Three body boarding groms out as well, including the self appointed "King of BP". They were very funny. The king spent the whole time telling the others what not to do and then doing it himself. Apparently he thinks that you can call a wave as soon as you see it, regardless of whether your on the inside or its your turn ! He would call his mates into the first shitty one whenever he thought there was a better one out the back. He then bagged one of his friends for dropping in despite dropping in on me on every wave. The King might find his head in a guillotine if he tries that on a better and more crowded day.
Still they gave me a laugh and the clear, crisp water was invigorating. The waves were really small and fast but there was the odd little fun waves for a gut slider. It was a bit like this video from the Daily Bread blog.
The groms surfaced this afternoon just as I was pulling on my wettie. Must have just been hiding this morning.
Tried the northly chop on two boards but it was one of those days where it looked a lot better than it was. Even from the water it looked like there was a mass of drivey lefts and rights but in reality they were almost impossible to get on to.
Went for a quick hand board bash at Barnacles this afternoon. The day has been superb weather wise and the water was cold but refreshing.
With a little bit of swell but a really low tide the waves along BP were close outs. However that didn't stop the flock of groms invading Juniors and the reef. Must have been 20 of them out there and no one old enough to grow bum fluff in the line up !
Looks like a repeat tomorrow. Apparently it is epic down south.
BP Reef is infested with them again this morning. So many in fact that they have migrated to Juniors closeouts as well. The only positive is that the waves are crap, the wind onshore and it is about to rain.
It wouldn't be so bad if they knew the rules and their own ability.
As usual a hyped swell hasn't arrived but it is starting to come up this afternoon.
Conditions were nice this morning and there was a heap of groms out at Juniors having a bash. There was enough swell to make it perfect for those who were just a step up from complete novice. They weren't big, there were no real clean ups, they were breaking softly and away from the rocks.
Not the sort of waves that would usually have anyone else paddling out, except me. Took the mini mal out as the onshore started to settle in. In my defence I was really just wanting to get wet and not expecting to catch anything more than an odd soft close out. It is also fun sometime to be out with groms as their enthusiasm can charge you up. The first wave and the last wave were worth the paddle anyway.
