Seems I started a day earlier than previous years, not that the surf makes it worth adding a day.
Today is flat again. This has been the most disappointing seven days. Usually I get a couple of surfs, with at least one being clean Juniors and one onshore bash. This year I got nothing except a few just ok hand board sessions.
Roll on 2013.
Day 8 - 31/12/12 (6.00 m)

Day Seven 29/12/12
Bump in the swell but the period is huge. There are two guys out at BP reef sharing the single wave sets that are coming in ever 15 to 20 minutes. The waves are small and short but clean.
I chose Barnacles again. It was about the same size as yesterday but you waited for ever for shorter waves.
Day 7 - 30/12/12 (2.00 pm)
Waves : knee height eventually
Wind : E - 11 kph gusting to 17 kph
Swell : 0.40 @ 14

Day Six Part Two
Had to get wet so took the handplane to Barnacles. The tide has helped just a tiny bit but it was minute and not suitable for stand ups.
It might have been small but it was enough to break my handplane. It looks like it just needs to be re-glued which is no big deal. That rail gets most of the work and flex so if it was going to fail it would be there.

Day Five - 28/12/12
Little ripple this morning on a better tide. Not really surfable but I did get a pre-work handplane session. The waves were really week and barely knee height however it is a nice way to start another scorcher of a day.
It's ideal for micro-gremmies who got their first soft board for Chrissie and to stay cool but not much else.
Day 5 - 28/12/12 (6.00 am)
Waves : Shin height
Wind : SE - 2 kph gusting to 4 kph
Swell : 0.30 @ 11

Day Four - 27/12/12
Even worse than yesterday. The tide is so low that I was able to walk out to the far edge of the reef without getting my knees wet.
There has been a little kick in the swell on the buoys but not necessarily in the water due to the direction. It could reach 2 metres at Naturaliste overnight but is forecast to drop out pretty quickly.

Day Three - 26/12/12
No good news today. Even flatter than yesterday and when the overnight wind wobble disappears it will be flatter again.
The tide is super low but on the plus side there is some nice looking banks hanging around. The sand is quickly filling in around the groyne and is nearing the tip.

Day Two - 25/12/12
All I want for Christmas is a bit of swell.
I must have been naughty because it was flat this morning although the conditions were nice for a swim or micro groms to paddle their Chrissie presents.
I chose to take the SUP out after a very big breakie with the family and the wind had swung. Still mastering it so ended in the drink a couple of times.
Merry and safe Christmas to you and your family.
Day 2 - 25/12/12 (11.00 am)
Waves : Foot slappers
Wind : WSW - 15 kph gusting to 20 kph

7 Waves in 7 Day 2012
I end every year by taking a photographic record of seven days in the life of Juniors and BP (click here for previous years). It was an idea I stole from an Australian Surfing Life video. Today is day one.
The surf is a little disappointing. The wind is offshore and quite strong and tide is good but the swell that was around in the poor weekend conditions has disappeared. It might be worth keeping an eye on but probably not.
Day 1 - 24/12/12 (6.30 am)
Waves : Ankle slappers
Wind : E - 11 kph gusting to 20 kph

Surf Movie Sunday
Nothing decent last week and slim pickings again. This is the best of a bad bunch.
Parko's world champion video
Super slow mo of Jaws. Makes it look easy enough for mortals to surf.
Now that Kelly is part of the Go-Pro team expect more of these videos.
Bit of Yank action.

Mushy
Quite a bit of swell of in the water but onshore winds. Bit of a missed opportunity of a day because it looks like there would have been some decent size and shape.
Maybe tomorrow morning.

New swell
New long period swell in the water and offshore winds. I haven't looked this morning because I have to work and don't need any more torture than that !
Coastalwatch has down south being 6' plus and firing.
Could be a good start to the holidays for the groms but today looks like the best for the next few as the winds swing onshore earlier each day.
0.54 @ 13 and still going up

With Slater just losing his semi to Josh Kerr, Parko is 2012 world champ.

Pipe
Parko in the water at the moment hoping to get through and closer to a world championship. He is up against Pipe local Kalani Chapman.
In the first three heats of round three all the highest seeded pros have lost, including John Florence and Julian Wilson. Slater takes on Billy Kemper in heat nine, while Taj has Yadin in heat 10 and Mick Fanning has the hard task of Shane Dorian in the last heat of the round.
Conditions are pretty good but a bit smaller than yesterday. There is some wind messing the lefts a little.

Dropped
Swell has dropped again and is probably too small to surf. Might be worth checking mid-morning when the tide wanders in a bit but only if you have nothing else to do.

Surf Movie Sunday
Missed out last week due to poor selection and this week isn't much better but here we go.
First the local stuff.
A grom deep at North Point.
The Taj footage for the week.
Aussie Anthony Walsh shows just how clear the water is a Chopes.
Some Indo with Julian Wilson.
And finally some high performance longboarding for those with bigger taste.

Almost Summer
Nice weather and still a little swell.
The tide is filling in and Juniors is starting to show a little shape. The beachies at BP on the other hand have disappeared after showing some form early.
The wind is still offshore and probably will be for most of the day. If you have nothing to do it might be worth a float around.

Pipe Masters
The Billabong Pipe Masters is on with round one in good conditions. Plenty of big sneaker sets landing on the competitors heads.
The double heat format is being used which gives plenty of action. The current rumour is that the swell will hang around and the event will run three days straight.
Parko and Slater don't surf in round one or two. From the WA point of view Taj misses rounds one and two while Yadin has won his heat. He'll meet Matt Wilkinson in round two.
The action is online and on FuelTV but you have to press the red button to get away from the UFC.

Almost flat
The tide is low and the swell lower.
I had a little mal surf yesterday and there are some good but unusual banks around. I'm not sure how much swell they will hold but at least the sand has filled in a bit.

Silver lining
Heres a collection of photos from the storm on Wednesday and Thursday. I did get wet Wednesday at a secret spot but there is a whole story that I won't go into. On Thursday one of my favourites PK was firing but I ripped the zip off my wettie as I was suiting up to go out. Bummer.
Perhaps I should lay off on the vanilla slices !
