No quality or size. Plenty of north onshore in the wind and a pretty weak swell.
I will be down south for the week, unfortunately for work not surfing so there mightn't be much activity for a few days.

Surf Movie Sunday
Not a huge selection again this week.
Gabriel Medina proves that his first back flip was no fluke by doing another one.
And the usual Taj video - this time an interview.
And another Jay Davies video - never gets old.

Saturdays
Clean long period swell in the water but the tide is a smidge low. Coastalwatch are calling 6 - 8 foot down south.
There is an offshore wind with a strong wind warning for southerlies this afternoon.
Keep an eye on it is the best I can recommend.

Early risers
Two boogers, a mal and me on the handplane first up this morning. Waves are around the one foot mark and the wind strong offshore.
I wouldn't bother with a board as its almost all closeouts but it might be worth keeping a mid-morning eye on it if the conditions back off a bit.

Wobbly
Small, weak, wobbly swell first up this morning and the tides have finally returned to normal. What wind there is is trying to be offshore .
If you've got the day off maybe give it a look in an hour or so to see if it has sorted itself out. The forecast is for another day of southerlies.

Great start
Nice start to the day with a hand plane session at Juniors in small but clean conditions. The tide is still low and most waves are just closing out. But the water is crystal clear and the sky blue so its hard to be disappointed.
Groms, bodyboarders and those that just want to get wet might find a single wave to make their day. Beats housework.

Rocking
Another super low tide. The swell is pretty small.
Nice morning for a body bash but probably a bit little and shallow to take out a board.

Long beach
Very very low tide today. Plenty of rocks sticking up everywhere and shallow banks.
There is still some swell in the water with a decent period. The wind has a lot of south in it making the waves just a little soft. The forecast is for it to swing SE this evening so with a rising tide there might be a LAGO.
Only a SUPer out at the moment. Lots of close outs but if you picked the right one and missed the rocks you could have a fun session.

Clean
Clean but a little cool down the beach at the moment. The swell has come up but the banks are a bit straight. The groyne looked pretty good from a distance.
The wind is meant to be variable but swing SW by early morning so don't wait too long.

Slopier
Much the same as yesterday but with more south in the wind. The forecast is for the wind to drop this afternoon so there might be the chance of a LAGO.

Sloppy
Onshore and weak. A couple of people have splashed around and there have been worse days for the desperate but not many.

Finally
A bit of swell around and the wind is light and sort of offshore. There's not much in the way of shape but the bank at Juniors and the groyne are dropping in the odd wall here and there for the desperate.
Wouldn't wait to long as it's likely to be onshore for most of the day.

Taj wins
Taj Burrow as won the Coldwater Classic, beating Matt Wilkinson in the final. It's Taj's second win for the season.
Parko made the quarters and Slater round five which means it will all be decided at Pipe. Fanning has a slim chance but would need both of the others to drop out early and while he keeps going. My quick calculations have Slater currently leading on 48450, Parko 44700 and Fanning 38450. To guarantee win number 12 Slater would need to win one more heat than Parko. Parko would need to get at least ninth if he was to go out in the same round.
Lets hope for waves at Pipe.

Cold Water
Parko and Taj through to the Quarters. Yadin out in round three again. Slater is in a very difficult round five heat against Adriano.
Travis Logie is having his annual good event, into round five.
Matty Wilkinson is the form surfer of the event so far.
The event will run tonight (11 pm our time) to crown a champ. Waves look ok and with a fair bit of size.

Tricked
Looking at the surfcam first thing in the US morning it didn't look like there would be much surfing going on at Steamer Lane overnight but it cleaned up.
Round two and most of round three were done and resulted in the World Title will go to Pipeline, with Slater and Parko through to round four. However John Florence was knocked out of the race and Mick Fanning's chances took a kick with both losing in round two for 33rds.
Round one wasn't good for the top seeds and round two wasn't better. Round three was pretty bad as well.
Taj is still in the event and Yadin is in the first heat of the day.

Surf Movie Sunday
Something for a wet and wintery day in the south.
On the subject of weather, you might have heard about a storm that hit the US this week. Heres the silver lining.
With summer very close the idea of 30 days without surfing isn't far fetched.
An arty clip of Steph Gilmore.
And thats it for another week.

Coldwater Classic
The O'Neill Coldwater Classic at Steamer Lane has started in pretty decent surf. Taj has just won his round one heat and is only the second top seed to make it straight through to round three so far. Parko was the other one.
That means that the other three title contenders (Slater, Fanning and Florence) are into the elimination round two.
The webcast is at http://www.oneill.com/cwc/ and its live on FuelTV. Being in the US its late at night going into the early morning.
