Still here

I haven't forgotten the blog it just that February is the worst month for surf in Bunbury every year so it is hard to get motivated to write.

Its flat again and a beautiful day for everything ocean based but surfing.

I'm away from town and surf from Saturday for about 10 days so the blog will be empty (unless there is something newsworthy from the wider surfing world).

Fear not small readership I will be back and hopefully driving into a fun autumn.

New swell

The long awaited swell is showing in the water. The tide is still low so there are lots of dry suck take offs and closeouts but there is the odd fun corner at Juniors for a hot summer day. However you have to be prepared for long flat waits in between sets.

Summer hopes

Good looking forecast for the next two days. The swell is predicted to go to 2-3 metres Friday and hit 4 on Saturday. The tide will be rising from a pretty low low around 6 am and the winds will generally be offshore or sideshore but fairly strong.

Don't get overly excited though. This isn't the first swell to either not appear or to be the wrong direction to get around the cape this summer. Even if it does hit with the recent flatness there is no guarantee that there will be any banks.

Sea breeze

You know it's summer when you get excited by wind waves ! Just had a handful of fun and surprisingly walling waves at BP Reef. I'd almost forgotten what waves looked like. Possibly a little tweak in the swell tomorrow but no guarantees.

Two days late

But it was two years ago on the 31st January that Bunbury got the classic Cyclone Bianca swell. I still thing the Iggy swell was better locally but down south Bianca uncovered a gem near Inji, which has been willed into life every time there is some north in the swell.

Here are some reminder videos and pics.
