Flat

Just a clean ripple but way way too small to surf.

Looks like it is back to the "Flat don't bother" posts for a while longer

I shouldn't get myself excited

No waves so far today. The wind has a heap of south in it and was white capping from dawn. The swell is still really small and the tide low.

What happens for the rest of the day will probably depend mainly on the wind.

Little ray of hope for tomorrow

The harbour buoy as been rising and sitting in the high fours for most of the day and the Naturaliste buoy is touching the expected three metres. On the down side the winds are likely to be from the south and tide quite low with the full moon.

The waves were slightly bigger at Juniors this afternoon but closing out across the bank. Looks like one of those days when you'll really need to be lucky to hit the wave window.

Frustrated

The swell buoy has been jumping between 0.29 and 0.4+ all morning but the waves are small and really inconsistent. Juniors is just breaking across a super shallow part of the reef. A week plus of flat-ness has straightened the bank and they aren't flowing together.

On the plus side the water is warm and the sky blue. Maybe the swell will keep building to the forecasted three metres offshore and with the tide coming up there may be some waves later or tomorrow.

Morning (8.00)
Waves : 1' + but inconsistent
Wind : fresh SE
Tide : shin deep reef
Crowd : zip
Quality : 4 out of 10
Fun Factor : worth the paddle
Board : Dhu fish as a twinnie
Wave count : dozen

Right direction

At least the swell is finally heading in the right direction. Its been flat all day but it has jumped over the 20 centimetre mark for the first time in the last few days.

There is a forecast which shows the possibility of waves over the next few days but a lot will depend on the tide and winds. Don't hold your breath just yet.

Small wave spots

Got to love those small wave magnets when you've been dry for a week. Did the super early trek south this morning and scored a little bank at the south end of Redgate. The waves were small but punchy. It was a bit overcast and a little cold but the crowd consisted of me, my mate and a pod of very big dolphins.

Honeycombs also had some waves (and dolphins).

Happy Australia Day

Great to see Aussie flags and happy people everywhere today. Lots of parties already, heaps of barbies and the beach is filling despite the overcast conditions.

Unfortunately there is no swell. The harbour bouy is at 14 centimetres ! This is day seven of the latest flat spell and there doesn't look like any end in sight. Not even a wind wave.

Don't bother going south tomorrow. I'm going so it will be crap !

Flat today

and flat tomorrow. Swell bouy is down to 0.15 metres and there was barely a ripple this afternoon when it was 0.2.

Some forecasts have a little pulse over the weekend but it is more likely to just be a kick from table top to ripple.

Dawn patrol

Don't bother.

The wind is already strong from the south and is likely to swing south west this morning. The swell is around 0.3 but the wind is killing it.

Juniors is a mess and the Bay is flat with no banks.

Overcast and hot

A little jump in the swell size today but it was weird. There seemed to be two swells at once both with varying degrees of south in them. Juniors had wedgey sort of waves which were fun but very inconsistent. At times there would have been 15 minutes between surfable waves.

The water temp. was ideal and it was only hot when you got out. Winds were light and glassy.

Morning (9.00)
Waves : 1 - 2'
Wind : glassy, light NNE
Tide : fullish
Quality : 6.8 out of 10 (when they came through)
Wave Count : dozen
Crowd : 3 booggers (only 1 could surf)
Board : 6'9" Dhu-fish

Afternoon report

Now very hot and even flater.

Good luck finding a parking spot if you want a quick swim.

Flat

Stay inside with an air conditioner

Fine

Nice day for a BBQ on the deck so this explains the late post.

Conditions (minus swell) were perfect again and if it wasn't a weekend during school holidays would have been worth the trip south.

Closest to a wave locally was Juniors. Had an afternoon session in very small and short rights off a shallow part of the reef. The water was nice and the waves were good enough to leave you with a smile.

Afternoon (3 pm)
Waves : 1' (knee height +)
Wind : SSE
Crowd : 4
Quality : 5.1 out of 10
Board : 9'4" log
Wave count : heaps
Fun factor : smilie face

Friday fun

The swell was very small but the weather perfect for getting wet this afternoon. Half a dozen were out at the Bay, catching hip height shore breakers but actually getting enough face for some fun and a cover up or two. For me it was a fun hand board session off the southern wall.

Late Arvo (5.00pm)
Waves : hip height shore bangers
Wind : SSE but light
Crowd : no more than four at one time
Quality : 4.8 out of 10
Board : Hydra hand board
Wave count : heaps

Finally its not stinking hot

The dawn check found a low tide and a strengthing southerly. Juniors and BP Reef was a mess of weed and rocks. The beachie was cleaner but really a fairly fat shore break.

Chose to come home and watch surfing on Fuel TV.

Not looking good for the rest of the day at this stage.

Waves today

There is some nice swell around. Onshore started by 9 but has stayed pretty light so far.

Juniors had some nice little waves and there was the odd left off the reef. There is still a shore break bank on the beachie but it was full of swimmers.

Morning (9.00)
Waves - 2' +
Wind - light SW
Crowd - 4 max
Quality - 7 out of 10
Fun factor - fun

Dawn Patrol

Waves at Juniors and BP this morning. It was a bit wonky but if the offshore picks up it will be a bit cleaner.

The swell is on its way up and has jumped from 0.3ish to 0.4+ in the last hour. The sets were getting a bit bigger and more frequent when I got out.

If you've got the morning free head down but don't wait too long.

Early Morning (5.30)
Waves - 1-2'
Wind - light SSE
Crowd - me and a dolphin
Quality - 6 out of 10
Fun factor - Great start to the work day !

Flat

Hot, low tide mornings and flat, hot, high tide afternoons.

Summer blows !!!!!!
